Pray for America

While reading about Babylon’s attack against Jerusalem in Ezekiel 24:1-14, I saw where God said, “Destruction is certain for Jerusalem” (verses 6 and 9). I realized that if God did not spare this beloved City of David because of the people’s wickedness, then we need to pray for the United States of America.

The USA has come so far from where it started from as a nation with the motto, “In God We Trust.” What happened? Did we become a proud nation and forget the God who kept us throughout the years?

The first of the Ten Commandments state:

“I am the LORD your God, who rescued you from slavery in Egypt. Do not worship any other gods besides me,” (Exodus 20:2,3). Surely, the true and living God who tolerates no rivals is not pleased when our worship is directed toward the gods of pride, power, and money.

God spoke about the Temple at Jerusalem that King Solomon built and said, when trouble comes upon the land (and trouble will come at times), “Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and heal their land. I will listen to every prayer made in this place, for I have chosen this Temple and set it apart to be my home forever. My eyes and my heart will always be here,” (2 Chronicles 7:13-16).

The Western Wall is all that remains of the Temple Mount that was destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE. Why did God allow that fabulous Temple to be destroyed and his chosen people to be scattered and taken into captivity? Their wickedness was punished because God also said this:

But if you abandon me and disobey the laws and commands I have given you, and if you go and worship other gods, then I will uproot the people of Israel from this land of mine that I have given them. I will reject this Temple that I have set apart to honor my name. I will make it a spectacle of contempt among the nations. And though this Temple is impressive now, it will become an appalling sight to all who pass by. They will ask, “Why has the LORD done such terrible things to his land and to his Temple?” And the answer will be, “Because his people abandoned the LORD, the God of their ancestors, who brought them out of Egypt, and they worshiped other gods instead. That is why he brought all these disasters upon them,” (2 Chronicles 7:19-22).

I penned the following words as I cried out to God on behalf of America:

                              Please God, Bless America

America – a rainbow of people speaking different dialects

Flaunting their culture and their religious sects

Striving to maintain individuality

In a melting pot or salad bowl which demands conformity.

Mothers – pre-teens to senior citizens practicing sexual immorality

Reproducing young, in a perverted monogamous society

Waiting in lines for AFDC, WIC vouchers, food stamps, and such

Not even expecting the biological fathers to help out much.

Entertainment – tis evil personified in the youth of this land

Violence via a television tube, giant screen, and a gun in hand

Drugs, alcohol, sex, pornography, smoking, and junk foods abound

Killing them softly and creating a shortage of plots in the ground.

Religion – freedom to worship God is what our forefathers sought

To preserve religious freedom – not abolish it – they fought

Exalted today are idol gods like celebrities, fame, money, and fancy cars

While the gospel is confined to beautiful buildings behind bars.

Ignorance – teach the children reading, writing, and arithmetic too

In this land of opportunity with so much to see and do

Yet, despite high school diplomas and expensive college degrees

People still struggle to find and maintain jobs to supply their basic needs.

Culture – As American as baseball, hamburgers, and apple pie

Are ditching and dropping out of school, and death-row inmates waiting to die

Imported goods and cars, plus stock and land sales to foreign investors

In this automated society void of love, where racial hatred festers.

Amnesty – Allied troops are deployed around the world

Having problems in your homeland? For you our flag is unfurled

America the land which once proclaimed English its native tongue

Home of the free where both slaves and slavemasters have sung…

God bless America, my home, sweet home.

Please God, bless America.  Restore my home; sweet home.
